Plot Synopsis
Based upon the book "Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash" by John Carter Cash. Beginning in 1939 in Clinch Mountain, Virginia, young June travels and sings with her family as they slowly rise to fame as The Carter Family, considered the First Family of country music. She embarks on a solo career and meets and marries country star Carl Smith. When that marriage ends, she marries race-car driver Rip Nix, but she soon finds herself enamored of the also-married Johnny Cash, who she's been touring with. Their courtship and marriage in 1968 was almost destroyed, as June repeatedly deals with Cash's battles with substance abuse. In 1984 June confronts Johnny with a family intervention, and he enters the Betty Ford Center where he finally kicks his pill addiction. Over the next 19 years the two beloved country stars perform and record together until June's death at the age of 73 in 2003.
