Plot Synopsis
In 1950's Mississippi, liberal newspaper editor Hazel Brannon Smith begins publishing articles attacking racism in her hometown. Going up against the bigoted sheriff and local segregationists she becomes a target for violence and intimidation. Her crusading determination and hard hitting journalism ultimately win her the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing in 1964, the first woman to be so honored.
