Plot Synopsis
Based on the novel by Gary Paulsen. On a southern plantation a newly arrived slave teaches a 12 year-old girl to read even though it's illegal. Believing that to learn to read and write will help free his people, he secretly gives many of the field hands lessons. With their new found knowledge they are able to uncover information vital to their survival.
