Plot Synopsis
Successful New York real estate broker Fiona Rangely is offered a prominent job at a high-powered company. However, after constantly feeling like one more ball in her juggling act, he boyfriend Nate is tired of her never having time and dumps her. Crushed, she plans a week-long escape to her family's quaint Vermont Inn, promising to relax and pledges to come back to the city with a fresh start on life. Upon arrival, she notices Derek, a handsome and rugged guy working outdoors with a wheelbarrow. After they get off on the wrong foot, she learns he's the Inn's new head chef-- Paris trained, yet very laid-back and not impressed with her fast-paced New York lifestyle. Her attitude towards him as being a "Vermont Lumberjack" quickly changes when Nate arrives as a guest at the Inn with a brand new girlfriend, prompting Fiona to devise a plan to win him back-- She'll pretend Derek is her new boyfriend. They strike a deal, Derek will play boyfriend for the week to make Nate jealous, and Fiona will use her savvy skills to negotiate the sale of the field next to the Inn for Derek to grow vegetables and herbs. Meanwhile, Nate and his girlfriend are enjoying the rustic activities around town, and Derek does all he can to keep his end of the deal of being a pretend boyfriend. Fiona's priorities begin to change and she trades her high heels for old duck boots. As they continue the charade and pretend to be in love, she begins to actually fall in love, transforming into a person who can slow down and unwind. Nate takes notice of this and wants her back, but she begins to question if the life she has in New York is the right one. She soon realizes her scheduled life may not be what she really wants, discovering that sometimes the best things can't be rushed and are worth the wait.
