Plot Synopsis
Lucy Windsor is thrilled to learn that her soon-to-retire boss has nominated her to take over her prestigious post as Director of Britain's London Museum of World History. The dream job seems to be hers provided she passes muster with the museums board. Then Lucy receives a letter telling her that her beloved Great Aunt Grace Wycliff in Rhode Island has died and that she must fly there immediately to tend to disposition of the estate, which includes a vast mansion where Lucy used to spend her summers. Upon arrival at Wycliff House, she is astounded to learn that in her will, Aunt Grace has left half the estate to her and half to Duncan, son of the estate's longtime caretakers, with whom Lucy was romantically involved before she left for London ten years ago. Duncan, it seems, never answered her letters after she left and so whatever was between them died before it could ever really blossom. They now find themselves occupying opposite wings of the mansion and at loggerheads about what to do with their inherited estate. He wants to sell it to a developer who will raze the place and turn it into a golf course and she wants it to become a historical property so that it can be enjoyed by future generations. However, with a long list of expensive repairs and updates required to keep the place going, her idea seems to be a dream that just cannot come true, especially since Duncan has already lined up a potential buyer. They agree that perhaps a compromise could achieve both their goals so they work together developing a plan for turning the place into a historical resort. The spark between them is rekindled and both become excited at all the possibilities Wycliff House now holds for their futures. But, when the numbers simply do not work for the developer and Lucy learns that Duncan's plan from the start was simply to dispose of the place, she accepts the Directorship of the museum and leaves to go back to London. But now that his eyes and heart have been fully opened, he is not about to give up on Wycliff House or Lucy and he races to the airport to implore her to stay, at least long enough for the two of them to make vital changes to their plan to save the estate.
