Plot Synopsis
A modern retelling of the classic Edmond Rostand play, "Cyrano de Bergerac." Sixteen-year-old Cyrus DeBarge is the musical director at his father's church, and an aspiring rap artist who pens poems under the name "Truth," while at the same time trying to convince his preacher dad that hip-hop is not the devil's music. He decides to enter a songwriting contest being sponsored at a local teen club by the music label of his long time crush, childhood friend, teenage singing sensation Roxanne "Roxie" Andrews. He crafts a heartfelt and contest-winning song about Roxie, but, to his dismay, his work is mistakenly attributed to his best friend, Kris. Lacking the confidence to step forward, he stands by while Kris not only takes credit for the lyrics but ultimately begins to win Roxanne's heart too. As Roxanne begins to fall for Kris, Cyrus must find the courage to overcome self-doubt, seize the opportunity to reveal both his talent and his feelings, and pursue his dreams. All the while, he must still convince his father that hip-hop music can convey a positive message -- despite the rap battle that he is about to throw down with his nemesis, "Lord of Da Bling" at the club. Original soundtrack released June, 12, 2012 on Walt Disney Records.
