Plot Synopsis
In 1995 Florida, 55-year old Sandra Chase, having never traveled outside the United States, is excited to accompany a male friend to Ecuador for a much needed vacation. Her dream vacation soon turns into a living nightmare when she is arrested at the airport in Quito and is unjustly imprisoned for supposedly smuggling cocaine in her suitcase. With no trial or any recourse, she is sent to a women's prison with deplorable living conditions and is continually terrorized by the other inmates. Meanwhile, her daughter Tammi is vigilantly working on getting her mother released from prison, but with limited knowledge of the laws and legal processes of Ecuador, she has little success. Unwavering in her belief of her mother's innocence, she is forced to drain her life savings while fighting with embassies and government officials, as she races against time to save her mother. In her determined fight for justice, she recruits a U.S. Congresswoman, Rep. Corinne Brown, and finally in 1997 they prevail in securing Sandra Chase's release on humanitarian grounds because of her medical condition of scleroderma.
