Plot Synopsis
Matthew Henson, the loyal and resourceful African American assistant who accompanied the celebrated explorer Robert Peary on his successful quest for the North Pole in 1909. Henson repeatedly saved Peary from danger during their nine attempts to the Pole and his rapport with the native Inuits was vital to the success of the mission. He was denied due credit because of his race and Peary's huge ego.
