Plot Synopsis
Based on the novels by Suzi Weinert and the ninth installment in the "Garage Sale Mystery" TV movie franchise. Jennifer Shannon has parlayed her eagle eye for garage sale treasures into a rewarding career at Rags to Riches, the consignment store she owns with her partner Dani. The store is an early stop when wardrobe designer Cassie Parks and bass player Lita Merrill go looking for a specific garment for their boss, country singer John Dalton. Upon learning that Dani is major fan, Lita offers to get her and Jennifer into the concert venue to watch the band's pre-concert sound check. Arriving at the club on the appointed day, Jennifer and Dani find a tense group of people waiting on a tardy Lita. When she finally sends a cryptic text message apparently quitting the band, a furious John vows to drag her back to the club. He and Cassie race over to Lita's house, where they find her hanging from a noose in her living room. Though Jennifer's own initial examination of the house reveals no sign of forced entry or other indicators of foul play, the idea of suicide doesn't sit right with her. Not only was Lita looking forward to going on the road, she had just consigned some valuable tour jackets with Jennifer - hardly the behavior of someone planning to take her own life. Staged suicides aren't uncommon in Jennifer's beloved mystery novels and the Coroner confirms that such cases do occur in real life, though there is no physical evidence to suggest that Lita'a is one of them. Unwilling to give up just yet, Jennifer convinces Detective Lynwood to allow her a more thorough search of Lita's house. And the plot thicken when Lita's estranged husband shows up in town, determined to establish his claim to her estate. What he doesn't mention is the life insurance policy he took out on his wife when they first married.
