Plot Synopsis
Based on the book The Airman and the Carpenter by Ludovic Kennedy. On March 1, 1932 the infant son of aviator Charles Lindbergh was kidnapped from his New Jersey home. Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a German-born carpenter, is arrested for the crime. Although the evidence is questionable; politics, ambition, greed and fear play a decisive role in the sensational trial. Hauptmann's loving wife Anna professes his innocence and the Governor has doubts about his guilt, but the jury votes for a conviction and the doomed immigrant is eventually executed.
