Plot Synopsis

Based on the book ''Convicted in the Womb'' by Carl Upchurch. Born in a 1950's Philadelphia ghetto, Carl Upchurch falls into a life of crime. His life takes a critical turn when, after being locked in solitary confinement, he stumbles upon a prison copy of Shakespeare's sonnets. Encouraged by a college prison teacher he embarks on the formal education he never had, and graduates from college while still in prison. Upon his release he becomes a crusader for non-violence and in 1993 he organized the first gang summit where gang leaders from across the country sat together to discuss peace.
