Plot Synopsis

Based on the book by Dori Sanders. A strong-willed African-American girl faces emotional conflicts when her widowed father marries a white woman. Her world is abruptly shattered when her father is killed in an accident and she is left in her stepmother's care. Although the older woman faces racist attitudes from her in-laws she bravely attempts to bond with the child. Through shared grief they eventually learn to resolve their differences and start bridging the gaps that separated them.
