Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel by Jane Hamilton. A young woman who has been controlled and bullied by her tyrannical mother marries a man her mother abhors. He gives her the interest and affection she craves even though he is a lazy, no-good, violent pill-popper. They all wind up living together, stoking resentments that simmer and boil until he snaps and clubs Mom to death.
