Based on the book by Randy Shilts. In 1981, Dr. Don Francis a devoted medical researcher at the Center For Disease Control battles bureaucratic indifference as he and his team of investigators try to identify a mysterious new ailment that seems to affect gay men. As the AIDS epidemic spreads, egotistical Dr. Robert Gallo of the National Institute of Health competes with the French researchers for the right to be the first to isolate the virus. As the crisis escalates the government reluctantly acknowledges the problem but it is way too late for so many innocent victims.
