Plot Synopsis

Based on short stories by Walter Mosley. A tough black ex-con living in downtown Los Angeles lives with a violent past and a difficult present. Poverty and the pressure of the ghetto constantly test his resolve, as does the prejudice he encounters when job hunting. But he finds strength and dignity in his relationships-- among them a sick friend and a homeless boy whom he takes under his wing.
