Plot Synopsis

Inspired by ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross' reporting from his book "The Madoff Chronicles." Follows the prodigious rise and abrupt demise of Bernie Madoff, who formed Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC in 1960 that over time, employing his brother and his two sons Andrew and Mark. He built his firm into a global powerhouse even becoming three-time NASDAQ Chair. But what his friends and investors didn't know that it was all one big Ponzi scheme, considered to be the largest financial scam in United States history-- losing billions of dollars for clients worldwide, including philanthropic foundations, celebrities, and retirement portfolios. The miniseries explores the complicated family dynamics within the Madoff family and exposes the motivations and mechanics behind the monumental fraud. His devoted wife, Ruth, denied any knowledge of her husband's scheme. On June 29, 2009, Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison at the federal correctional complex in Butner, North Carolina.
