Plot Synopsis

Each year since 1996, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) has honored the finest in cinematic achievement from the previous calendar year. Originally known simply as the CRITICS' CHOICE AWARDS, the BFCA changed the name of this awards program in 2011 to CRITICS' CHOICE MOVIE AWARDS, because the organization began conferring awards in television in a separate ceremony the following year. In 2016, the BFCA combined its movie and television awards into a single event -- again called the CRITICS' CHOICE AWARDS. In recent years, the BFCA began conferring two special awards to honor career achievements and philanthropy: the LOUIS XIII Genius Award, which recognizes "an unprecedented demonstration of excellence in the cinematic arts"; and the Joel Siegel Award, which, as a tribute to founding BFCA member Joel Siegel, "spotlights the leadership role so many great stars undertake to help solve the world's most pressing problems."

On Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 7-10pm ET (live)/PT (tape delay), The CW presented a live broadcast of the 29th Annual CRITICS' CHOICE AWARDS, hosted for the second time by Chelsea Handler. The show, held at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, continues its combined Film and Television awards format, honoring the finest in both cinematic and televised/streaming achievement.

America Ferrera receives the seventh annual SeeHer Award, which honors a woman who advocates for gender equality, portrays characters with authenticity, defies stereotypes and pushes boundaries. Her BARBIE costar Margot Robbie presents the award. SeeHer is the leading global movement for accurate portrayals of women and girls in media. Founded in 2015 by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and The Female Quotient (The FQ), SeeHer is a global collective of marketers, media organizations and industry influencers committed to creating gender-bias-free advertising and media. Viola Davis received the inaugural #SeeHer Award in 2017, with subsequent winners including Gal Gadot (2018), Claire Foy (2019), Kristen Bell (2020), Zendaya (2021), Halle Berry (2022), and Janelle Monae (2023)

Harrison Ford receives the Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout its 29-year history, the Critics Choice Awards have honored just eight stars with the illustrious Lifetime Achievement Award including Lauren Bacall, Kevin Costner, Clint Eastwood, Eddie Murphy, Robert Wise, Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges, and now Ford. James Mangold takes the stage to honor Jeff Bridges.
